Access Terms of Use (Update)

Terms of Use Update

Over the past few days, we have received a lot of feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised. For more information, visit the Facebook Blog.

If you want to share your thoughts on what should be in the new terms, check out our group
Facebook Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.

After 2 days of heavy discussions and complaints in the "net community" Facebook has taken its unannounced modification of its Terms of Use back.

This was no surprise, since the membership in any social network is based on trust. People disclose their contacts and relationships and share secrets online, believing they are able to control their rights and their level of privacy.

As world-wide discussed Facebook would have been able to monetize and commercially use all your personal content and contributions ever placed on the platform. Even if you have already cancelled your account.

Even if the financial exploitation of the network was never intended, as being claimed now. You do not foster trust, by secretly changing your Terms of Use. The real surprise for me was, that it had taken 2 weeks before the first bloggers recognized the Change.

Hopefully the future Bill of Rights and Responsibilities will be created and announced in a more public way. Todays announcement to all users (see above) proves: Yes they Can!!!
